yoga toes
D.R.V. asked:

hello…i did yoga for the first time on monday and while doing the “reclined big toe pose?” (lying on your back wiht your left leg flat, right leg lifted into the air using a strap around the bottom of your toes and pointing your toe like pushing on gas pedal)..i experienced a very sharp severe pain on the lateral side of my lower leg.

anyone know what this is? very painful!!!
i like your answer dr…however, it didnt feel like muscle pain…more like nerve pain?

That’s the peroneus longus muscle. It’s a major stabilizer of your ankle and foot. The position you put your foot is one of the ways to stretch that particular muscle. You merely stretched it beyond of what you usually do, hence the pain in that muscle. Next time, gently stretch that muscle, over time, you’ll build strength and it won’t hurt at all.
