Problems with some Yoga poses?

Holly asked:

There are a couple of poses that I find almost impossible to get into:
1. Downward Facing Dog-At best, my heels are always 3 inches off of the ground. Is this a flexibility issue, or are some people just not able to flatten their feet in this pose?
2. Also in Downward facing dog- The instructor on the DVD (Yoga was cancelled at my gym) always says that you should keep your weight on your thumb and forefinger, not on your wrist joints, but I don’t see how, no matter how I self-adjust, I still feel pressure on my wrist joints. Any tips?
3. Yoga toe lock- When I am in yoga toe lock, foot extended in front of me or to the side, it seems that my leg is considerably longer than my arm. I can straighten my leg SOMEWHAT more if I bend my knee on the leg that I am supporting myself with… Should the leg that is holding me up be locked or slightly bent?

I have been practicing for about 4 months, from 2-5 days a week, and while some poses get easier, some just seem impossible for my body.Help!
I should add that I am small, not necessarily doing yoga to lose weight, but I do care about proper form…
