Is there a limit to how many times a week one should practice Pilates?

Megs Golightly asked:

I love doing Pilates. As a former ballet dancer, it is a way to retain my flexibility and lean muscles. I have heard warnings, though, that practicing Pilates too often can cause the abdominal muscles to overly form and cause the stomach to look larger because of the muscle. I’m just curious– what exactly is too often?

I’ve never heard anything like that. I have heard and read that you only need 30-45 minutes a few times a week for the benefits to be fine. However, most people love doing them and continue to do them daily, and there really isn’t any harm.

Any strength training/muscle building workout shouldn’t be done more than every other day. Your muscles need a day off to rest and get stronger.

That won’t happen, believe me. It could happen if you took some kind of steroids to make your muscles grow unnaturally. You can do pilates 6 hours each day and you won’t get that effect… Don’t worry :D
