Ravi Singh and Ana Brett's Kundalini yoga for Beginners focuses on the back and spinal cord. I find that after I do it, I can more easily sit up straight and my back feels good. It also incorporates a lot of meditation, which I know you're also looking for. I don't know too many different types of yoga, but I've been practicing for a couple years.

Basically all yoga will work your back and as long as you do the poses correctly, you shouldn't experience any additional pain.

If you're looking to practice at home, check out Amazon.com for yoga DVDs. You might find ones that focus on your back, I think there's one called Yoga for a Better Back.

Good luck on your search. I hope this is helpful.
